[gradsusr] template in control file

I have a set of files:

dwdt1.dat
dwdt2.dat
dwdt3.dat
dwdt4.dat
dwdt5.dat
.
.
.
dwdt9.dat

At http://www.iges.org/grads/gadoc/templates.html, it says:

Your forecast model output looks like this:
   MMOUT_DOMAIN1_00
   MMOUT_DOMAIN1_01
   MMOUT_DOMAIN1_02
so your DSET enry will look like this:
   DSET ^MMOUT_DOMAIN1_%tm2

I only have one digit, so my line looks like

  DSET   ^dwdt%tm1.dat

but it isn't finding any of the files to open them.  Any idea what I am 
doing wrong?
