[gradsusr] Error while reading CMIP5 GFDL-ESM2M rainfall data

I have a copy of this file and I am not able to reproduce this error. I suggest you retrieve it again, perhaps from the original source instead of ICTP, or else you can notify the administrator of the clima-dods server that something is wrong with that file.  

My xdfopen-style descriptor for this data set (which includes all times from 186101 through 200512) is printed below. Although the file has a 365-day calendar, it is not necessary to add that to the descriptor OPTIONS because it is monthly data. But you absolutely do need a complete TDEF entry and the CHSUB entries are also required because there is no 5-year template substitution string.
