Do you realize that Level-2 data are not regularly GRIDDED data, i.e. GrADS 
stands for Grid Analysis and Display System and is designed for GRIDDED data. 
MODIS Level-2 data are 5-minute Swaths.

It may be possible to read in Level-2 data by constructing a control file and 
perhaps defining each Level-2 swath pixel as point data. I.e., it won't be 
simple reading these into GrADS.
