[gradsusr] order of nested functions

Hi Matt,

The functions are evaluated starting with the innermost one, just as in any mathematical expression involving nested functions. In this case the ave is done first, followed by the max.

Subject: [gradsusr] order of nested functions

Hi All,

What is the order in which GrADS processes nested
function calls: from the inside to outside, or vice
versa? For example,

ga-> d max(ave(cloud,time=jan1850,time=dec1900),z=1,z=4)

My intent was to take the average, and then the maximum. Looking
at the output, it appears the max is taken first and then averaged.
I could be misinterpreting the meaning of the output however.

Thank you, Matt
