[gradsusr] distinguish height

if you have altitude information, eg elevation, use maskout:
display maskout(rain,elevation-500) plots precipitation only where
elevation >500m

in your case:
display maskout(maskout(rain,elevation-500),1000-elevation) will
consider precipitation only on regions between 500 and 1000m
