g2ctl -verf
gribmap -i
f06 = 6-hr forecast on its own would require the -verf flag
Cheers,
RYAN

Hey, Matt,
Great to hear from you!
I don't have a ton of experience working with GRIB2 files, but I do see in the description of the CAT*, CTP*, and ICIP* variables different pressure levels listed. Is it possible that these arrays are valid on different sets of pressure fields that are not covered in your ZDEF entry? You only have 40000 35000 30000 25000 20000 15000 listed, but I wonder if it will work if you add 80000 70000 60000 and 50000 to the ZDEF entry.

I am having no luck getting WAFS GRIB2 files to plot in GrADS and get the "Cannot contour grid - all undefined values" error after many hours of trying seemingly everything. I am downloading the files from:
http://www.ftp.ncep.noaa.gov/data/nccf/com/gfs/prod/gfs.2013121212/WAFS_blended_2013121212f06.grib2
Then I generate the control files using g2ctl.pl<http://g2ctl.pl> and index files using gribmap. Here's an example ctl file:
