Hi, 

Thanks. I have decided to solve the problem using nco and awk... Thanks a lot for all those who helped. Unfortunately i couldn't do what i wanted in GRADS.

If you do have DMI as a data variable, then you use nested maskout() calls with const() to create a mask over the data for each "bin" and get the statistics you need. --Jennifer

I have calculated an index and would like to group my results into

bins so i can plot the standard deviation bars. I have attached an

example of what i am trying to reproduce, so how do i do this....i.e

separate my indices into bins like DMI>1, 0< DMI<1 and DMI<1. Thanks
