[gradsusr] GrADS and WSR-88D imagery

Dear GrADS users,
 
Has anyone ever tried overlaying GrADS plots with WSR-88D (NCDC archived) imagery?
I can envision 2 ways of accomplishing this:
 
1) Importing the radar data into GrADS. 
 
2) Exporting Grads plots into GIS raster format and merging the images in ArcMap.
 
I like the latter option because ArcMap is designed to work with layers of maps and you can
adjust the transparency for better viewing. However, if no one has done that, I am willing to
try number 1.
 
Any suggestions would be more than welcome.
