I should add that working with these data requires properly screening the data 
(for quality, as well as other issues) before attempting to grid the data. We
are currently waiting for the OMI NO2 group to deliver to us their 'gridded'
Level 3 product which will have the recommended screening applied to the data.
Our sister organization has these data in plain HDF5 files available at 
http://avdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/ (separate variables in daily or monthly files). We 
should be receiving the gridded HDF-EOS5 data
shortly (all variables in a single daily file).
