[gradsusr] "Dat."file extension

Dear Sir,I keep on my doctorate program.Grads is one of softwares which will be used on my studies.
 I have to say that I am beginner on Grads so that ý am difficulty in preparing data's for running Grads. Especially file extended "dat",,cant open and cant see how to prepare. Would you mind giving me some knowledge how to open and create files extended "dat".
