Sounds like this could be taken care of with a couple of if statements with grads scripting to me. One to check the percentage coverage, then another within it (or multiple) to check for a certain temperature or range of temperatures. Then within in that, which would only be entered after meeting the previous conditions, write commands to plot and set contour color as you see fit for that set of conditions. Good luck.

cloud layer) ...etc
And the variables with the corresponding cloud temp tmplclt (K), temmclt(K)
... etc
How could you use the two variables to draw shaded cloud where the colour is
controlled by the temperature (K)
Where the % cloud cover say exceeded 50%?
