[gradsusr] paint a colour background or sea and more borders regions

There's many different ways you can do this. Most basically, you can use
the set background<http://www.iges.org/grads/gadoc/gradcomdsetbackground.html>or
set
display <http://www.iges.org/grads/gadoc/gradcomdsetdisplay.html> commands.
Both do similar things but slightly differently. Getting more complicated,
if your data contain land use categories or a land-sea mask, you could
display that with appropriate coloring to make land green or brown and water
blue for example. You wouldn't be able to plot color shaded plots on top of
that, though. However, if you had a shapefile that contained land-sea
boundaries you could use the shapefile
commands<http://www.iges.org/grads/gadoc/shapefiles.html>to color land
and sea below any color-shaded plots you have. Finally, you
can plot whatever you want, then create an image file using
printim<http://www.iges.org/grads/gadoc/gradcomdprintim.html>and place
a background image under it. For an example, see the Users
Forum archive from November
2010<http://gradsusr.org/pipermail/gradsusr/2010-November/thread.html>with
the thread titled "Command
produces a PNG image with transparent color 0 and a background image
NE.png". Hopefully one of these possibilities will suit you. Good
luck.
