[gradsusr] No discernable time coordinate in single-timestep NC file

Use the -4d option to 'set sdfwrite' -- that will force your output  
file to have 4 coordinate variables (lon,lat,lev,time), and it will  
write out your variable as a 4D variable with the correct fixed time  
dimension metadata.
