Some time ago Ivan Toman provided this dataset:

  http://www.meteoadriatic.net/pub/grads/newmap.bz2

uncompress it to  /usr/local/bin/grads/bin/  or wherever your lowres,  
mres, hires map datasets are and use 'set mpdset newmap'
