Dear Mr Charles Seman,

        Regret to inform you that your suggested method did not work probably due to the fact that the level (1000 hPa) was specified before hand [I use window version of GrADS v2.0.a7.oga.3]:-

ga-> set lat 20 40
LAT set to 20 40
ga-> set lon 80 140
LON set to 80 140
ga-> wind=mag(uwnd,vwnd.2)
Define memory allocation size = 1800 bytes
ga-> set lev 1000
LEV set to 1000 1000
ga-> d fndlvl(wind,max(wind,lev=1000,lev=100),lev=1000,lev=100)
MAXing.  dim = 2, start = 1, end = 12
Constant field.  Value = 1000
ga-> d fndlvl(lev,max(wind,lev=1000,lev=100),lev=1000,lev=100)
MAXing.  dim = 2, start = 1, end = 12
Cannot contour grid - all undefined values

     I also notice that the new forum requires me to put the Forum email address first before cc to you so that my message could appear in the forum too. Jennifer Adam from COLA/IGES may wish to respond to this.

     Regards.

Ooi

Ooi,

Please "set lat 20 40" and "set lon 80 140" before defining "wind" and then try set lev 1000d fndlvl(wind,max(wind,lev=1000,lev=100),lev=1000,lev=100)
You may want to contact the GrADS Users Forum people to see why replying to your messages doesn't send them to the list (compare your email headers to those of another post to the new list;  I've noticed they're different)...

Hope this helps,
Chuck
