stnmap error

Respected All,

While runnig stnmap [ $stnmap -i stn.ctl ] I am getting the following error. What does
this mean?

$ stnmap -i stn.ctl
  Name of binary data set: K1V_dat.bin
  Number of times in the data set: 1
  Number of surface variables: 3
  Number of level dependent variables: 0

Starting scan of station data binary file.
Binary data file open: K1V_dat.bin

Sequential Read Error: Record size greater than one station report: 40 :: 32

But, when I used:

$stnmap -0 -i stn.ctl it creates the map file (i.e. as if no error). But, later when I
tried to display, I am getting the following errors:

Low Level I/O Error:  Sequential read error
  Record size exceeds report size
  Data file name = K1V_dat.bin 
Data Request Error:  Variable is 'gc'
  Error ocurred at column 1
DISPLAY error:  Invalid expression 
  Expression = gc
------------------------------------------------------------
