Craig,
This is a matter for the NCEP EMC. Please see the email included herein.
The period for the latest review has been extended because they found a problem with the grid.
You should contact one of the EMC folks.

Subject: [NCEP.List.ModelEvalInfo] Global Multi-grid Wave model upgrade
parallel testing and evaluation
NCEP Model Evaluation Subscribers,
The Environmental Modeling Center (EMC) has proposed an upgrade to
the Global Multi-grid Wind Wave model (WAVEWATCH III).
The model changes include:
1. Generation of gridded data in GRIB2 format as they become available
from the wave model. This on-the-fly generation replaces the current
process of generating all gridded data at the end of the forecast run.
2. Extension of the computational grid from 77.5 deg N to 83 deg N in
reaction to the further northward retreating of sea ice in the Arctic
Summer. This is achieved by adding a ninth Arctic grid to the mosaic of
grids. This grid is used internally in the model only, with its output
merged into the existing global output grid.
3. Unification of all wave model codes to model version 3.14.
4. Removal of spurious noise at the edge of the West Coast grid.
5. Increase of internal spectral resolution of the model. The main
reason for this increase is to more properly resolve spectral scales of
observed spectra and to prepare for physics upgrades that are planned
for the next 4 years (ONR-funded NOPP project). The increased
resolution will also reduce the effects of the Garden Sprinkler Effect
(GSE). However, since explicit GSE alleviation methods are already
included in the model, the latter improvement is expected to be small
There are no changes to the model outputs. Output of the new internal
grid is merged with the existing global grid that already covers the
entire Arctic Ocean. Spectral output for selected output points will
remain unchanged. The latter spectral output will be interpolated from
the internal spectral output resolution, using a precedure that is
already in use for the present operational model.
*Near real time parallel data*
Beginning Tuesday, March 9, 2010, and starting with the 1200Z cycle, a
consistent parallel feed of data will be available at:
FTP:
ftp://ftp.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/data/nccf/com/wave/para/wave.YYYYMMDD
<ftp://ftp.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/data/nccf/com/wave/para>
HTTP:
http://www.ftp.ncep.noaa.gov/data/nccf/com/wave/para
<http://www.ftp.ncep.noaa.gov/data/nccf/com/wave/para>
We will make the model output available for 30 days starting Tuesday,
9 March so that end-users of the WAVEWATCH III model data can verify
that no unforeseen changes have been introduced.
Any comments on this proposed change will be appreciated. Any feedback
you wish to provide during the evaluation period should be emailed to
NCEP.List.ModelEvalFeedback at noaa.gov prior to 14 April, 2010. We are
aiming for implementation of the WAVEWATCH III upgrade on 27 April,
2010. We ask that those of you who choose to participate in the
evaluation please prepare your evaluation packages as early as possible
in order for us to meet our briefing and implementation dates.
The Environmental Modeling Center, EMC, has publicly available websites
which can provide users with more information concerning the WAVEWATCH
III model. EMC's parallel runs may be viewed at:
http://polar.ncep.noaa.gov/develop/waves/viewer.shtml
The current production runs may be viewed at:
http://polar.ncep.noaa.gov/waves/viewer.shtml
The Technical Implementation Notice (TIN) for this upgrade has not yet
been finalized. Information on the TIN will be forwarded to you as
soon as possible.
Thanks,
Chris Caruso Magee

Subject: [gradsusr] Wave Watch 3 Specs
Hi Guys and Gals,
I know this isn't really Grads related but I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with setting up the new Wave Watch III version 3.14 and what the minimum specs are regarding cpu processor and RAM??
I'm looking to set it up myself and want to know the required specs.
Cheers for any help!
Craig
