Problems using templates

oops, you need one more keyword in your TDEF for xdfopen:
tdef time 731 linear 1jan1975 1dy

This will work assuming that the time axis in your netcdf file is  
called "time". If it is called something else, replace the word "time"  
in the TDEF with the actual name in the data file.
