HDF file reading

Hi All,
Can any one suggest how to convert HDF files (e. g. TRMM rain) in to binary files (in
linux platform)?
The GrADS utility sdfopen is not working. It gives an error "SDF file has no discernible
X coordinate". Any clue to fix this!
