Dear OPeNDAP and GrADS Users,

I am pleased to announce that after a long hiatus in development, a
new GDS version has been released. GDS 2.0 has been upgraded for
compatibility with all the new capabilities in GrADS version 2.0. The
significant changes in the new GDS are that it can serve data in
GRIB2 format and it supports 5-Dimensional ensemble data sets. The
server-side analysis capability is also more flexible, allowing
results that vary in all 5 dimensions.

The GrADS-friendly library, formerly known as libgadods, has also
been reworked (with invaluable help from James, Pat, and Arlindo) for
compatibility with GrADS 2.0 and GDS 2.0, and so it has a new name
and version number: libgadap-2.0.

The latest release of GrADS (version 2.0.a3) is a fully-enabled
client for GDS 2.0, handling grids and sequences. I am eager to know
of the success or failure of other clients when accessing GDS 2.0.
Examples of GRIB2 forecast grids from NCEP and surface station
observations that are being served by GDS 2.0 are at:
    http://monsoondata.org:9090/dods/gfs2/ (4D grids at 0.5-
degree resolution)
    http://monsoondata.org:9090/dods/gfsens/ (5D grids at 2.5-
degree resolution)
    http://monsoondata.org:9090/dods/stn/metar/ (sequence data)
The data sets listed under these directories are updated in real time.
