Stephen,

1) The line thickness in shp_lines is by now a known bug that we will
address in the next release. It does not work for me either. I remember
testing the line color, but never really the line thickness. It needs to be
fixed.

2) About the object option, I'll let Graziano answer this one. When you do
not specify an object, the code loops over *all* objects available in the
shapefile.
