check if opendaps file exists

Dear all,

I wonder if there is a way of checking whether a file exists or not
when trying 'sdfopen'

Something like a return error code that can be checked by a script
and move to another file in a list without attempt any processing on
the erroneous one.

I am trying this for some batch processing, so I would like to script
it in an automatic way.
