BCC RegCM output data with Grads

Sajjad,

This problem might be happening because the data has the opposite byte ordering from what your machine has. Try adding one of these lines to your ctl file and see which one works:

options big_endian

options little_endian

One of these choices should work. If not, you have some other problem with your data, or it might have header bytes that grads does not know about (you can also specify header properties in the ctl file). See http://grads.iges.org/grads/gadoc/index.html

Subject: BCC RegCM output data with Grads

Dear all,
I am using regional climate model of Beijing Climate Centre,China. I have a problem. When I open the file I get this kind of message
....................................................................................
ga-> open daily_ave91.ctl
Scanning description file:  daily_ave91.ctl
Data file daily_ave_1991.bin is open as file 1
LON set to 42 110.5
LAT set to 0 44.5
LEV set to 1000 1000
Time values set: 1991:5:1:0 1991:5:1:0
Notice: Implied interpolation for file daily_ave91.ctl
 Interpolation will be performed on any data displayed from this file

..................................................................................................................................
Than I used the commond to check file variables

ga-> q file
File 1 : model-output on surface
  Descriptor: daily_ave91.ctl
  Binary: daily_ave_1991.bin
  Type = Gridded
  Xsize = 138  Ysize = 90  Zsize = 1  Tsize = 153
  Number of Variables = 17
    tamxd 0 99 daily maximum surface temperature (k)
    tamnd 0 99 daily minimum surface temperature (k)
    psdnd 0 99 daily averaged surface pressure (cb)
    soldd 0 99 daily averaged direct solar fluxat the surface (W/m2)
    difdd 0 99 daily averaged diffuse solar fluxat the surface (W/m2)
    frudd 0 99 daily averaged net upward longwave fluxat the surface (W/m2)
    sswdd 0 99 daily averaged upper soil moisture (mm)
    rswdd 0 99 daily averaged root zone soil moisture (mm)
    evapd 0 99 daily averaged evaporative flux (kg/m**2/s)
    senhd 0 99 daily averaged sensible heat flux (w/m**2)
    rnosd 0 99 daily accumulated surface runoff (mm)
    rnodd 0 99 daily accumulated total runoff (mm)
    rfddd 0 99 daily accumulated rainfall (mm)
    cqvdd 0 99 daily averaged column water vapor (g/m**2)
    cqcdd 0 99 daily averaged column cloud water (g/m**2)
    cqidd 0 99 daily averaged column cloud ice (g/m**2)
    dtaud 0 99 daily averaged cloud optical depth
.....................................................................................................................................

Now I want to see a variable

ga-> d rfddd
Notice: Automatic Grid Interpolation Taking Place
Contouring: nan to nan interval inf

I donot get any display on the screen

I than selected set clevs 0 1 2

ga-> d rfddd
Notice: Automatic Grid Interpolation Taking Place
Contouring at clevs =  0 1 2 3

I got the display at the lower (south) of the domain. This is a very small belt.

I am unable to recoganize the problem. Any help in this regard will be highly appreciated.

With regards

Sajjad Saeed
