EOF OF WIND (U,V)

Dear list ,
           I have a question regarding calculating EOF analysis of Wind.
 I have seperate files for U and V components. what i will do to for calculating EOF of wind direction . Wind speed EOF i can do with defining new variavle ,But how to get Wind direction EOF.

These may be possible solution

1) Calculates the EOF OF seperate for EACH U and V component and than draw wind speed and direction using these two outputs.

-Please let me know how to do this thing . If any body has did this thing please guide me . If any script is there  please share with me ,
