to use files ".dat" created by fwrite

Dear All,

  How can I open with GrADS a ".dat" file created by "fwrite"?

  For example:

  "define var= **** "
"set fwrite test.dat"
"set gxout fwrite"
"d var"
"disable fwrite"

  How can I use the file "test.dat" with GrADS?
