You need to read the documentation on using NetCDF data files with
GrADS:
http://www.iges.org/grads/gadoc/SDFdescriptorfile.html

If, after trying an xdfopen type descriptor file and a dtype netcdf
descriptor file you are still unable to make it work, then please send
your descriptor files and the output from 'ncdump -c' on your file.
