v1.9b4 ZDEF invalid description file record

Dear all,

 The following problem occured running GrADS v1.9b4 on redhad linux.  It does not occur running GrADS v1.8SL11 on the same machine (see q config outputs below).

 When I try to open my file I get the following error:

 The control file is as follows:
