bit-packed data/binary data

Hi.

Two questions:

1) Does anyone know of any routines available for
grads to read in bitpacked data? I can convert the
file to floats, but I would rather skip that step if
at all possible.

2) I have a data file of 1.0s and 0.0s. How can I
plot this so that grads does not shade or contour? I
just want to see a black and white grid. I tried set
gxout grfill, but all I get is an all white domain.

Thanks!

Gary
