access violation using gradshdf

Hello,
Did the access violation ever go away? And if so, how?

I am trying to look at a timeseries of netcdf files by using a .ctl
description file and xdfopen, on my Win32 GrADS, run on Windows XP.
'xdfopen slimcatV175.ctl' reads in the file description ok and allows
dimensions to be set, such as;
set z 9
set lat 50 90
set lon 0 360
set t 1

but then crashes with a stack_violation when I display a variable;
d hcl

Wierdly, the netcdf files look great when I sdfopen them individually.
I have tried to carry this out with both Win32 GrADS unider cygwin and
XServer, and Win32e GrADS. I have also tried deleting the
PCGrADS/xwin32/cyg*.dll files and replacing with the cygwin cyg*.dll files.
Nothing works yet.

Has anyone managed to xdfopen netcdf ctl files on this system?

Many thanks,
genevieve millard
