There is no hard-coded limit inside GrADS -- but there are likely
system limits built into your operating system for the number of open
files allowed. It may also be limited by available memory, as each new
open file eats up a chunk of memory.

However, there are some hard-coded limits in the DODS library -- you
can only have 32 DODS files open at one time.
