axis label position and ticks

Dear Kilian and Heiner,

Thanks a lot, both sugestions solve my problem!
However, Heiner solution is a bit better as I don't need
to know how many ticks I'll need.

Heiner::
is this "switching between the fonts"
documented? or you just had a divine inspiration?
Do you know where I can find more info on that?
