Gribfiles "Time is fixed" problem

Time itself is not a variable, but the result of 'q time' is.  In fact, the
name of that result variable is result!

So, in your script you want to have

'q time'
'draw string 8.6 8.4 'result

Also, as you can see, the variable name is outside the quotes.  What is
inside the quotes is a grads command, what is outside the quotes are script
commands and variables.  It can be quite tricky at times, but you get used
to it.

many thanks for your help. It works now. I still have one small problem:

I want to draw the result of "query time" on top of the page:
ga-> q time
Time = 15Z15JUL2005 to 15Z15JUL2005  Fri to Fri

So I added to my script:
'draw string 8.6 8.4 'Time''

All it does is print the word time on top of the page. How can I enter
variables in a draw string command?

    I think you have one of 2 problems, either the file is corrupt or
short, there should be 61 time steps to the file.
    Also try running grib2ctl with the verf option,

eg grib2ctl.pl -verf nww3.all.grb > nww3.all.grb.ctl

then run gribmap on the ctl file. the ctl file should look somthing like
the following:
