Dear Robert
working with windows is very easy. but for scientific
applications, still windows is not a suitable platform
(this is my personal view). So many programs are
running on windows with less efficiency as compared to
unix.
now let me come to your problem.
I assume that you are running pc version of grads from
start->program->pcgrads->grads.
if you are following above procedure then you need to
check the present working directory by !CD command.
you put your ctl file in this folder. or give full
path of your ctl file with open statement. it shoud
work. if your data file is not in the same directory
then you can specify path in your ctl file. Dset
$path/datafile.
another alternative is that you start grads from the
command prompt. i.e. from that directory in which your
ctl file exists. this is the common procedure in unix.
i have faced some problems in this with windows xp.
you should specify the grads path and environment
variable GADDIR and GASCRP in the startup. i hope you
know how to do that.
i would sincerely suggest again you to switch over
unix to get better scientific environment. it is not
very difficult.
