Date/Time Stamp

Fellow GrADS users,

I have a long-term daily-mean precipitation dataset covering the US from
which I've calculated the yearly evolution of domain-averaged
precipitation (to show a time series) overlayed with a 7-day running
mean.

My question is this:  the x-axis correctly shows the labels as Jan|Feb|Mar
etc. as I would like them to appear.  Unfortunately, the year (that
must be included in the .ctl file) appears just below the "Jan" on the
x-axis.

Since the time plot I'm showing is really a mean over an extended period
of time, I'd like to remove the "year" that appears below "Jan".

Is there an easy way to do this other than turning the x-labels off and
re-writing them manually?
